Environmental Health Basics
Geographic Focus:
National
When:
September 22, 2014 - 9:00am to September 24, 2014 - 5:00pm

Location:

National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS)

Research Triangle Park, North Carolina

Theme

Environmental Health Literacy (EHL) is the central theme for the 2014 PEPH Meeting. We wish to capitalize on the fact that EHL is coalescing as a distinct field within health education and risk communication, and that it is receiving increased attention from researchers and federal agencies. We believe that hosting the 2014 PEPH Meeting around the theme of EHL will underscore the importance of this type of research to EHS and garner input from those with expertise in the various fields that comprise Communications Research in the Environmental Health Sciences. In addition, this meeting will further NIEHS’ commitment to communication research outlined in Goal 11 of the NIEHS Strategic Plan.

Format

The first two days of the meeting will include oral presentations and panel discussions, and ample opportunity for small group interactions.  There will be no concurrent breakouts so that we can maximize input from all participants. The third day will be comprised of hands-on workshops related to EHL. If you wish to be a part of a session or conduct a workshop, submit a proposal (see below).

Registration

Registration will open in late July for this meeting. We are capping registration at 150 participants, so please register early.

We plan to webcast portions of the meeting for individuals who cannot attend, or who are interested in learning more about environmental health literacy. Look for more information on the meeting page later this summer.

Meeting Scholarships

As in past PEPH meetings, we will offer needs-based meeting scholarships to off-set expenses to participate in the meeting. To ensure we can provide support to the greatest number of participants, we ask that you request only what you really need. Additional information will be sent out and posted on the meeting website in July. Recipients must have a role in the meeting (e.g. poster presenter, presenter, session moderator, workshop organizer/moderator).
