Funders are seeking more effective and efficient strategies for achieving water quality goals. Trading may provide an opportunity to harness market forces and encourage more innovations in pollution reduction. Water quality trading is an approach for managing discharges to water at the lowest cost to society. It has been considered successful in some places and not in others.

This webinar will review key issues in water quality trading such as: communities struggling to pay for infrastructure; sound science linking actions on farms to water quality improvement; and collaboration between cities, agencies, farmers, and environmental groups. With solutions needed to engage more stakeholders to improve America’s water, water quality trading may be useful when designed and implemented well.  The webinar will talk about the emerging best practices and guides available that support the successful implenentation of a water quality water trading market.

Speakers will also discuss the recent evolution in water quality trading including greater accountability, stronger links to broad environmental goals, and intentional contributions to local communities.
