Foundation Profile: Compton Foundation

“In a world that is increasingly interrelated, the Compton Foundation seeks to foster human and ecological security by addressing contemporary threats to these inalienable rights. We support responsible stewardship that respects the rights of future generations to a balanced and healthy ecology, both personal and global, allowing for the full richness of human experience. The Foundation envisions a world in which humans live in harmony with each other, and in sustainable balance with the earth.”

The Compton Foundation, Inc. works to enrich the quality of individual leadership, public awareness and political change through research and activism to define problems and create positive, effective and sustaining solutions.

The Foundation’s environmental health grantmaking is hosted by the Population Program and is relatively small in size.  The environmental grantmaking, on the other hand, is larger and focuses on climate change, fresh water, and community-based conservation, particularly in the western US.  The Foundation does not make international grants in the Environment program.  However, the Population and Peace programs do make grants for international work.
