NGO Profile: Keep Antibiotics Working
Keep Antibiotics Working is a coalition of health, consumer, agricultural, environmental, humane and other advocacy groups with more than nine million members dedicated to eliminating a major cause of antibiotic resistance: the inappropriate use of antibiotics in food animals.
Keep Antibiotics Working (KAW) is a coalition of health, consumer, environmental, and other advocacy organizations, dedicated to curtailing the routine overuse of medically important antibiotics in animal agriculture. The overarching goal of the coalition is to preserve the effectiveness of these life saving drugs for use in human medicine and to support development of more sustainable agricultural practices. Our principal strategies include (i) adoption of public policies phasing out use of medically important antibiotics as feed additives and (ii) encouraging meat producers to voluntarily curtail their antibiotic use in response to pressure from consumers (including high-volume meat purchasers) and the media.
