Large parts of New York sit atop the Marcellus Shale formation, and the oil and gas industry has been aggressively pushing for Governor Cuomo to open up New York to fracking. Governor Cuomo’s Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) issued draft regulations last summer that would open up a large percentage of the state to fracking. Thanks to grassroots organizing, the DEC received almost 70,000 public comments on their draft regulations and is currently reading through the comments. Governor Cuomo and the DEC could come out with their final regulations at any time. The entire nation is watching to see what happens in New York.
Come to the Briefing to hear what’s going on and to ask the questions that need to be answered. The Briefing will include presentations and ample time for questions and dialogue.
