Congressional Staff Briefing Invitation

Healthy Choices: Tips for Avoiding Toxic Chemicals in Your Daily Life

Sponsored by: Earthjustice and Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families Campaign
Honorary Co-Hosts: Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Senator Frank Lautenberg

Tuesday, May 17, 2011
485 Russell Senate Office Building
Noon-1pm

Unsure what chemicals are lurking in your apartment? Which plastics are safest? Or what household cleaner both works well and isn’t toxic? Please join us for a forum on how toxic chemicals are inadvertently ending up in our lives, what you can do to protect yourself and how we can reform federal law to protect public health and the environment. The 35-year-old Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) has proven itself ineffective in protecting people from chemical hazards. Under TSCA, The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has required health testing of only 200 of the 84,000 chemicals registered for use in consumer products. The good news is there are personal and policy steps you can take to move us towards a toxic free future.

Panelists:
Monona Rossol - Chemist and Author of “Pick your Poison: How Our Mad Dash to Chemical Utopia is Making Lab Rats of Us All”

Jamie Silberberger - Director of Policy and Programs, Women’s Voices for the Earth

Lindsay Dahl - Deputy Director, Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families Coalition

Moderator: Emily Enderle - Legislative Representative, Earthjustice

Lunch will be served at this free, widely-attended event.
Please RSVP to Jeremy Graham – jgraham@earthjustice.org.
