EPA Award to its Healthy Schools Initiative

Description
EPA has awarded 12 FTEs to its Healthy Schools Initiative this summer. After fact- finding visits by national Coalition for Healthier Schools members led by Healthy Schools Network to federal officials at EPA, CEQ, and ED, the agencies are now working to close gaps in guidances on school environments. EPA is issuing new guidelines for environmental health in schools followed by state agency grants to more than fulfill its congressional authorization; Education will offer “green ribbon” awards with guidance that is now expected to embed EPA criteria. With a new national Coalition consensus report on agency programs, the Coalition is advocating for a harmonized, if not unified, final package that strengthens EPA and builds all-new capacity on health, environment, and facilities at Education.
