Up one level- Practice Greenhealth Senior Director, Green Building
- Practice Greenhealth, a newly formed nonprofit organization supporting the design, construction, operations, and services of sustainable health care facilities, is engaged in a search for a Senior Director, Green Building. Practice Greenhealth was formed as the result of an alliance between Hospitals for a Healthy Environment and the Green Guide for Health Care, an independent project of Health Care Without Harm and the Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems. Practice Greenhealth is dedicated to creating a national community that supports environmental sustainability in health care. Practice Greenhealth engages all sectors within the health care industry to grow and transform the market for environmentally preferable products and practices and, in the process, educates the health care community about how to reduce their collective environmental footprints ? from the design, construction, operations and services of health care facilities, to the manufacture of health products through to their disposal. The Senior Director, Green Building will be responsible for the design, development, management, and delivery of all green building related programs for Practice Greenhealth. Practice Greenhealth is a new association and is in a start-up mode. Practice Greenhealth needs someone to take the ball and run with it! The Senior Director needs to be creative, entrepreneurial, work at a fast pace and deliver results in a tight timeframe. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in green building, particularly sustainable and green building in healthcare settings. This position requires experience in an association ? or member-driven ? organization, a demonstrated ability to develop and market programs, hands-on experience working with relational databases and web site content management to deliver knowledge and resources and drive member usage of Practice Greenhealth resources. The Senior Director, Green Building will report directly to the Executive Director and work closely with the Senior Director, Membership Development and the Senior Director, Green Guide for Health Care. A Masters degree and LEED-AP (or willingness to acquire it within 6 months) is desired, or at least 7 years of comparable senior level experience is required. Practice Greenhealth's headquarters is in the Arlington, VA offices of Health Care Without Harm. Ability to travel is required. A competitive salary and benefits package is available. - Global Greengrants Fund (www.greengrants.org) is seeking a Chief Executive Officer to succeed the Executive Director. The ideal candidate is a passionate professional, who is committed to the Greengrants mission and will provide outstanding leadership to the organization. He/she will be responsible for all aspects of the program, budget and staffing. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive will serve as a key spokesperson for the organization and will play an instrumental role in fundraising and resource development efforts. She/he will develop and implement strategic and operational plans to provide for strong organizational growth. The Chief Executive Officer will manage the current budget of $5 million, with the goal of growing the budget and increasing the number of annual grants. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing California legislative advocacy campaigns, supporting other state legislative advocacy efforts and providing support for BCF’s federal level legislative advocacy, and will also assist in developing Web-based activism strategies and in developing and maintaining web copy related to BCF’s state and federal legislative advocacy. Essential Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Coordinate statewide legislative campaigns including all aspects of legislative advocacy: organizing and outreach, web-based advocacy, web content, and coalition relationships. • Draft issue briefs, policy alerts, and other outreach/educational materials related to state legislative advocacy. • Oversee and work with state agency representatives to implement the following BCF-sponsored legislative initiatives: California Safe Cosmetics Act of 2006 (SB484); and the California Toxic Toys Bill (AB1108). • Co-coordinate California Safe Cosmetics legislative campaign with other co-sponsoring organizations including shared responsibility for legislative advocacy, organizing, and outreach, working with the coalition and community partners such as the California Healthy Nail Salon Collaborative. • Assist in tracking federal legislation and regulations; drafting issue briefs, policy alerts and other outreach/educational materials. Draft monthly federal action alerts Qualifications and Skills • Minimum four years relevant experience, i.e., experience coordinating statewide campaigns; drafting policy alerts, support letters and policy briefings; conducting organizing and outreach activities; coordinating educational events and forums; and coordinating Internet legislative activism campaigns. • Knowledge of breast cancer, environmental health, environmental toxins, and/or women’s health-related issues preferred. • Excellent communication and organizational skills; • Strong computer skills: Word, Excel and Outlook, • Exceptional ability to handle multiple tasks while demonstrating attention to detail; • Ability to work in a team environment, as well as with minimal supervision; • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in customer service and performance. - Program Officer -- Environment
- Background: Established in 1990, The Thomas Phillips and Jane Moore Johnson Foundation (“Johnson Family Foundation” or “JFF”) is a progressive family foundation. JFF operates national grantmaking programs in the areas of Environmental Health (“EH”) and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender issues and place-based grantmaking programs in Vermont; New York City and Suffolk County, NY; Pittsburgh, PA; and Telluride, CO. With assets of $92 million, JFF made 142 grants totaling $4.1 million in 2007. JFF has distinguished itself as a leading EH funder since entering the field in 2005 and will have awarded $4 million to EH causes by the end of 2008. JFF’s EH program, which is overseen by a committee of Trustees and the Executive Director, was designed in partnership with Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, which will continue to manage the program through the end of 2008. The Program Officer will be JFF’s third full-time employee and will report to the Executive Director. The position is based in New York City and will be available as of the Fourth Quarter of 2008. Position Description: • Manage JFF’s EH program (approx. $1 million annually) and other national and New York-area environmental grants (approx. $200,000 annually) • Prepare and present two to three grantmaking dockets annually, including written proposal reviews and grant recommendations • Determine appropriate measures of impact for EH grantmaking • Act as staff to the EH program committee and facilitate Trustee involvement in the grantmaking process • Lead periodic reviews of JFF’s EH strategy to define and revise the approach to grantmaking • Provide advice/assistance to support environmental grantmaking in Vermont (as requested) • Staff other grants as assigned by the Executive Director • Actively participate in, and support Trustee participation in, relevant affinity groups (e.g., Health & Environmental Funders Network, Environmental Grantmakers Association, Sustainability Funders Network, NYRAG, etc.) • Organize Trustee education sessions on EH subjects Ideal Qualifications: • Graduate-level training in environmental health or policy • At least five years work experience in the fields of environmental health or policy • Experience designing and implementing creative, responsive and results-oriented programs • Demonstrated ability to focus on strategic outcomes in program execution • Familiarity or experience with the grantmaking process • Interest in supporting place-based Trustee grantmaking unrelated to the environment • Outstanding communication skills; ability to write concisely and persuasively and to present ideas confidently • Sensitivity to interpersonal dynamics and ability to work with a variety of personalities • Interest in working with a family and comfort working at a small-staffed organization Compensation: JFF is committed to offering a competitive salary commensurate with the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience.
