Interim Director of Programs -- Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation

The Director will provide strategic grantmaking and management support to the organization?s growing program team, playing a leadership role in the startup phase of this new organization. Over the past four months, the program staff at Shakti has grown from having one to five staff people. While each new staff member is an expert in his/her sector, most are engaging in grantmaking for the first time in a country with little history of strategic grantmaking. The Interim Director of Programs will help staff develop and refine sector-based strategies and research, building internal capacity to engage in effective grantmaking and field building. This one-year, contract assignment (with option for extension) is ideal for an innovative and analytical leader with a background in strategic grantmaking or management consulting, exposure to the environmental field, and interest or prior work experience in India. The ideal candidate for this position is a strong manager with at least 10 years of work experience which includes work with foundations and strategic grantmaking, as well as exposure to the environmental field (preferably in energy or the power sector); Indian language skills and work experience are preferred but not required. ClimateWorks Foundation will cover the cost of relocation and is open to a variety of work exchange, secondment, or contract arrangements. Shakti hopes to fill this position as soon as possible.
