Program Associate
- Description
- The John Merck Fund is currently seeking a full-time Environment Program Associate. Reporting to the Executive Director and working with a small team of program consultants, the position’s primary responsibilities will include:
-administration of grant applications
-responding to written, phone and electronic inquiries
from grantseekers
-preparing written project summaries for five board
meetings per year
-interacting with prospective and current grantees, as
assigned
-fact checking written materials; researching and writing
occasional background memos
-staffing support for Board Environment Committee
-limited administrative support for Executive Director
The successful candidate will have a strong interest in environmental issues, as demonstrated by academic background and/or work experience. Excellent communication skills, especially writing, and interest in being an effective team member are very important. Previous experience working in a foundation setting is a plus, but not required. A college degree is required.
Salary will be commensurate with experience. The position comes with a generous benefit package. For the right candidate, this position has significant growth potential.
The John Merck Fund is a charitable foundation based in Boston. Its Environment Program supports nonprofit organizations working in climate and clean energy, environmental health, genetic engineering, and Vermont farm viability. Grants are made to organizations in New England and in other regions. The total program budget is $6.4 million.
