Organization: Just Transition Alliance

Grassroots Global Justice (GGJ) had their “Annual Congress” from September 16-18 in Raleigh, N.C., and it was sponsored by Black Workers for Justice.  The goals for the Congress were to redefine the strategies and select a new coordinating committee.  During the meeting in North Carolina, the participants focused upon three main issues (1) no war, (2) no warming (3) and building an economy for the people on the planet. In addition to the cogress, the participants took part on a tour of hog farms where they witnessed the working conditions, and the environemtnal justice issues associated with the hog farm industry. North Carolina has approximately 10 million farms and imports workers from H2A (a guest worker program) and immigrants with varying degrees of legal status.  Jose Bravo was selected to be on the coordinating committee.  As members of the coordinating committee, the Just Transition Alliance will be focusing on working on the issue of no warming and the climate justice campaign. The participants of the GGJ congress coordinated a rally at the state Republican headquarters around the issues of support for public employees and to emphatically reject the Tea Parties assault on human kind and the environment as a whole.
